Psychtoolbox Forum

News!

We have transitioned to a new home for our user forum, after Yahoo shut down all their forums on extremely short notice and deleted all posted content!

The new forum is hosted at Discourse, the link to it is at the bottom of this page. This is a way more polished and featureful discussion group system, so it should also provide improved usability. We have to figure out all the new bells and whistles ourselves, but all the basics should be ready.

People signed up to the old forum may have to (re-)sign up for the new Discourse forum. Much of the old content from the old YahooGroups forum has been imported into the new forum.

The Psychtoolbox user community is quite active. The old Yahoo Groups forum had 2,810 subscribers at the time of its shutdown by Yahoo at the end of October 2019, and received 24136 messages during its lifetime from 17th January 2000 to 28th October 2019. We hope the new forum will show as much user engagement, now that it is reestablished since January 2020.

Please help other PTB users on the forum.

Answers on the forum will be provided by volunteers at their leisure, so you might have to wait for quite a while for an answer, or not get an answer at all. If you need expert advice on the use of Psychtoolbox, or for resolving issues, with a guaranteed response in a reasonable amount of time, then please have a look at our commercial paid support by clicking this link.

If you are a registered member of the forum, your posts won’t be subject to moderation delay. Your questions will show up faster and you might get answers faster. Otherwise it may take between hours and days until your post shows up for others to read.

The externally linked document »How To Report Bugs Effectively« is a great guide on how to report a potential bug in an effective way. Please read it!

The externally linked document »How To Ask Questions The Smart Way« also contains lots of good tips on how to behave on community-run support channels.

If you notice a particularly helpful answer on the forum, we will all be grateful if you would copy it to the FAQ section on our Wiki to preserve it for posterity. You may want to edit it down to the relevant bits. With time we will incorporate and cross-reference these texts elsewhere in the project.

The Discourse forum site also has features to “like” specific helpful and relevant posts to mark them more prominently.
