Win Psychtoolbox version 2.54 is now available. It includes all interim fixes since the 2.50 release and additional improvements. You can read a list of the improvements and download it.

New Microsoft Visual C .net project have been created for all Win Psychtoolbox mex files. This brings improvements for Win Psychtoolbox developers:

  • New projects may be created by duplicating and renaming existing projects.
  • All mex file projects are now enclosed by a Visual C .net "solution" container, making source code navigation much easier.
  • Debugging of C source now works and is configured on all Psychtoolbox mex projects.
  • PsychSource is now portable between computers without modifying file path settings. Just set the system environment variable "PSYCHMATLABBASE" to point to the MATLAB base directory on your computer.
  • Psychtoolbox project now place the mex files which they build into the Psychtoolbox tree instead of the PsychSource project folders.

All development efforts are focused on the imminent release of the Psychtoolbox for Mac OS X. This effort will be maintained until that release stabilizes, reaching the same level of reliability and polish as the Mac OS 9 version, which is practically bug-free. The Windows version has known bugs and limitations that we don't have the resources to address. The new Mac OS X release is built partly on OpenGL, a graphics library available for Mac, Windows, Linux and many other operating systems. We plan to port the new release to Windows but that will occur only after it reaches a polished state on Mac OS X. This is our attempt to give the maximum research-enabling benefit to the greatest number of users, since the user community for Psychtoolbox is still more than half Mac users.
